foil challenge

THE WINNING TEAM

  • GEOFFREY POTTS,

  • JACOB HAEGELE, Engineering Grad Student
  • JOSE FAVELA,
 Senior, Electrical Engineering Major

ABOUT THE CHALLENGE

Students were given close-up pictures of 16 locations around campus. They had to go around campus and identify what the items were using only their knowledge of the campus and problem solving skills. The second part of the challenge included 4 tasks, such as locating the Intellectual Property Office and obtaining a signature from the administrator at that building. The first team to come back with the most correct responses won!

KEY TAKE-AWAYS

The foil challenge taught the students to effectively collaborate in a team setting, apply critical and creative thinking to ambiguous problems and to persist and learn from failure. The images showed a part of the whole, but never all of it. They represent an area that is unique to the object or its class - the activity taught the students to take a different approach to solving problems.
