Abstract

Personal Safety Alarms are medical alert services that send emergency personnel to the scene at the push of a button. They are useful during urgent situations, such as a heart attack, and primarily for elderly individuals and those living on their own. This proposal is for the implementation of a similar health-monitoring device that runs background diagnostics (blood pressure, oxygen saturation, pulse, ECG) on the user at all times. In case of irregularities, this device would automatically alert emergency personnel via SMS or bluetooth technology. The advantage of such a device would be in the case of a myocardial infarction or stroke, where the individual is alone and incapacitated; the system would detect and respond immediately instead of waiting for a button push.
