Undergraduate students in BME have the opportunity to participate in cutting edge research as early as their first year. Typically, students take a semester-long research training course (BME 395), where they learn: techniques related to tissue culture, how to design research plans, and, of course, laboratory safety. After this training, some students begin to work with individual faculty on their own research projects. Our students have received both grants for their proposed work and awards for their completed projects from national organizations.
Outside of the classroom, our students are active in a variety
of extracurricular activities. Students are involved in professional
organizations within BME and Parks as well as service and
general interest organizations
university-wide.
