B.S. in Biomedical Engineering
The Mission of the Biomedical Engineering Department is to prepare students for careers in health care delivery, ranging from fundamental research in science and engineering to the direct application of knowledge to problem solving and improving quality of life for humanity. In support of the mission, the department faculty participates in scholarly activities, including research, teaching and service, while maintaining a collegial and challenging learning environment for all students. Faculty mentor students at all levels to help them realize their highest potential as professionals and as persons in their development toward careers in industry, academia, and related professions.
The ABET-accredited Undergraduate Program in Biomedical Engineering, leading to a B.S. degree, is offered through Parks College. The B.S. program began in fall of 1997, and the first class graduated in May 2001. The students in Biomedical Engineering are among the best at SLU, as documented in their entrance test scores, their level of scholarships, their performance in courses, their participation in research, their active roles in various service projects, and their leadership roles in student organizations. With about equal numbers of males and females, the BME students are active in many campus organizations. Within Biomedical Engineering, the students maintain local chapters of professional organizations, including:
