Dr. Tobias’ career spans a broad range of experiences which include experimental field and laboratory research on buildings and bridges, design of bridges and buildings, and teaching various structural analysis and design courses. In recent years, his focus has been on implementation of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications in Illinois, development and implementation of seismic bridge design provisions at the state and national AASHTO levels, construction engineering for precast and precast prestressed concrete, concrete materials engineering, geotechnical engineering, serving as an associate editor of ASCE’s Journal of Bridge Engineering, and involvement in various research projects related to bridge deck crack mitigation, wood and steel pilings, and seismic isolation, among others.
