Dr. Marta Cooperstein is a chemical engineer currently residing in St Louis, Missouri. She received both her B.S. and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of New Mexico (UNM). She did her undergraduate and graduate research at the Center for Biomedical Engineering at UNM, where she researched fabrication and cytotoxicity of thermoresponsive substrates for tissue engineering. She also studied the mechanism of cell detachment from these substrates. She is a recipient of the highly competitive National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship awarded to top U.S. graduate students. During her studies, she authored four articles (first author on three), including a feature article in Langmuir, a premier materials science journal. She continued her postgraduate education at the internationally recognized UNM School of Medicine Pathology department, where she spent 2 years as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Cell Pathology lab under the supervision of Dr. Diane Lidke.
