Nancy Childrey started as an academic advisor for Parks College in July 2009. However, Mrs. Childrey is not new to the University. She began her journey at SLU as an undergraduate student studying psychology with a certificate in human resource management. In 2004, Mrs. Childrey graduated and continued her education for a master’s degree in counseling in human development and secondary school education. Mrs. Childrey began her first academic advising experience as an Honors Program academic advisor. Here she learned how to help students navigate the advising system and utilized her counseling experience to work with students dealing with transitioning to college.

After Mrs. Childrey graduated with her master’s degree in 2007, she was hired to work as a Program Coordinator for the Pre-Professional Health Office. While working in this office she developed her skills to coordinate a program helping transfer pre-med students adjust to the rigor of the studies of pre-med while adjusting to a new university. She also helped begin the process to reorganize the pre-dental club and conducted mock interviews for students wishing to apply to professional schools. In July 2009 Mrs. Childrey took the opportunity to transition to Parks College where she teaches U101 and is able to utilize her counseling skills to work with students on academic and personal issues.
