Engineering and Aviation Summer AcademyAbout the Academy

The 2013 Engineering and Aviation Summer Academy will focus on sustainability. This year’s Academy will take place June 9-13. Rising high school seniors wil participate in the five-day, four-night sessions and learn about the latest technology and career paths in engineering and aviation.

Students will work together to complete a capstone project during the week. On the last day of the Academy, their families are invited to attend a luncheon during which students will present what they learned that week.

During the Academy, faculty and student mentors guide students through hands-on activities in:

  • aviation management
  • flight science
  • biomedical engineering
  • civil engineering
  • computer and electrical engineering
  • physics

 Students will also attend an off-campus group outing, take a flight in a Diamond DA-20 airplane and explore Saint Louis University.

The Campus Experience

Students will stay in a residence hall on Saint Louis University’s campus. They will go on campus tours of the engineering and aviation facilities and the Busch Student Center, where students can pick up souvenirs in the bookstore. They will also have access to the Simon Rec Center, which features a rock climbing wall, swimming pool, sand volleyball court and more. Male and female counselors will chaperone the students for the entire duration of Summer Academy.

Application and Tuition

There is a non-refundable $50 application fee, which upon acceptance will go towards the tuition balance. If you apply before December 31, 2012, the fee is waived. If you apply between January 1 and January 31, 2013 the fee is $25. After February 1, 2013, the fee is $50. Tuition is $450 per person and includes all activities, housing, meals and a welcome package.

Applications are due by Friday May 24, 2013.

Student eligibility

Space is limited. Summer Academy sessions are capped at 40 students each. Participation is limited to high school students who will graduate in 2014 and currently have a “B” average or better. All application requirements must be met in order to be considered.
