Engineering and Aviation Summer Academy
Discover what it means to be “green” while learning about engineering and aviation and experiencing life on our campus.
About the Academy
The 2013 Engineering and Aviation Summer Academy will focus on sustainability. This year’s Academy will take place June 9-13. Rising high school seniors wil participate in the five-day, four-night sessions and learn about the latest technology and career paths in engineering and aviation.
Students will work together to complete a capstone project during the week. On the last day of the Academy, their families are invited to attend a luncheon during which students will present what they learned that week.
During the Academy, faculty and student mentors guide students through hands-on activities in:
- aerospace and mechanical engineering
- aviation management
- flight science
- biomedical engineering
- civil engineering
- computer and electrical engineering
Students will also attend an off-campus group outing, take a flight in a Diamond DA-20 airplane and explore Saint Louis University.
The Campus Experience
Students will stay in a residence hall on Saint Louis University’s campus. They will go on campus tours of the engineering and aviation facilities and the Busch Student Center, where students can pick up souvenirs in the bookstore. They will also have access to the Simon Rec Center, which features a rock climbing wall, swimming pool, sand volleyball court and more. Male and female counselors will chaperone the students for the entire duration of Summer Academy.
