Itinerary Highlights – Engineering Summer Academy

Students will participate in fun activities and enriching engineering modules each day.

Modules will explore the varying fields of engineering and will consist of dedicated instruction and interactive activities led by accomplished faculty members. The students will be provided breakfast, lunch and dinner. Below is a sample itinerary showing the types of modules that students will participate in during the week.

Day 1

Welcome to SLU

After check-in, students will meet their counselors and learn about the schedule for the week. Check-in for students will be held from 2-5 p.m. in McDonnell Douglas Hall. Airport transportation will be provided starting at 2 p.m. for those students traveling from out of state.

Campus Tour

Join an ambassador of Saint Louis University to discover the beauty of our campus and first hand experience from a current SLU student. Before the tour, explore McDonnell Douglas Hall and follow the historic timeline that details the rich history of the nations oldest aviation school.

Team Activities

Break into groups and compete in a series of timed, problem solving activities.

Ted Drewes

Students will take a break and have time to enjoy a St. Louis tradition, Ted Drewes frozen custard!

Day 2

Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Modules

Explore the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Labs including the Tinker Lab, the Solids and Materials Labs, and the Wind Tunnels.  Learn about fluid mechanics, material properties, aerodynamics and aircraft design.

Innovation Challenge

Participate in an innovation challenge based on engineering concepts for a chance to win prizes!

Day 3

Biomedical Engineering Field Trip

Visit a biomedical engineering research laboratory and learn more about the biomedical industry.

Biomedical Engineering Modules

Explore the labs and participate in interactive workshops surrounding topics such as bones, human tissues, prosthetics, and 3D printing in biomedical engineering.

Simon Rec Center

Students will go the Saint Louis University Simon Rec Center where they can swim at SLU Ruba, use the rock climbing wall or play basketball.

Day 4

Electrical and Computer Engineering Field Trip

Take a visit to the electrical and computer engineering industry to learn about possible career paths and learn from professionals currently working in the field.

Electrical and Computer Engineering Modules

Experience the fundamentals of robotics, circuits, and energy through a series of hands-on experiments in the well-equipped labs.

Day 5

Civil Engineering Modules

Explore the many areas of civil engineering, including structures, transportation and traffic, water management, and more! Learn about the infrastructure challenges the country faces, explaining how civil engineering will play a vital role in the repair. Work on projects that are applicable to real-world situations.

Students will go to Sports Fusion in Chesterfield, Missouri to enjoy two hours of play featuring laser tag, dodge ball, miniature golf, rock climbing and more!

Day 6
