“There’s a big emphasis on undergraduate research at Parks College, and I don’t think I would have been able to have this hands-on experience at another college.”
Once I knew that I wanted to go into biomedical engineering, SLU was an easy choice. I really liked everyone that I met on campus when I came to visit - they were all so friendly and nice. I also really connected with SLU’s mission.
Well, I definitely love being an athlete. But I also really love being a part of Parks College. All the professors are willing to help you and want you to succeed, and there’s a lot of opportunities outside the classroom. I work in Dr. Wagenseil’s lab, and she helped me to get a grant from the American Heart Association to spend my summer doing research. I used a bioreactor and other lab equipment to test the effects of pharmaceuticals on the mechanics of an artery. There’s a big emphasis on undergraduate research at Parks College. I don’t think I would have been able to have this hands-on experience at another college.
I’m not sure yet what I want to do after graduation. I really like doing research. I may continue on and get my doctorate, but I’m also thinking about getting a master’s in computer science.
