About the Student Chapter of the ASCE
The department of civil engineering at SLU is establishing a civil engineering club, which is working toward becoming a student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The
objectives of the ASCE student chapter at SLU will be to encourage the development of a professional consciousness, to afford an opportunity for civil engineering students to become acquainted and to practice working together effectively, to promote a spirit of congeniality among them, and to provide friendly contact with the engineering profession. The relationship of this Student Chapter to the American Society of Civil Engineers will be governed by the Constitution and bylaws of that body. This student chapter will provide many opportunities for the students to participate in helping the community, university, college, and department. It will help the students develop leadership skills to be successful engineers. ASCE encourages its members to provide leadership in special projects. Thus, it is appropriate for ASCE Student Organizations to undertake special projects that will fit in with the “people serving” role of civil engineering.
