Four Saint Louis University engineering students joined eight universities for the Innovation Encounter at Lawrence Technological University in Detroit, Michigan October 19 – 20, 2012.

Students were presented with the challenge to create a solution and a business case for the events’ participating sponsor, Masco Corporation´╗┐. The competition offered students a real-world problem that required teamwork, business planning, critical thinking and innovation.

“Overall this challenge was a refreshing step away from textbooks that helped us experience how real-world business operates,” said electrical engineering student Emily Hart. “Because teams were not given the prompt beforehand, working effectively as a team was very important with the 21 hour time constraint.”

Students representing SLU were Rebecca Mitrovich, Jacob Howenstein, Ryan Hughes and Emily Hart. They placed 3rd in the competition.
