ASME Student Professional Development Conference
Saint Louis University's Chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers hosted the Student Professional Development Conference
SPDC is designed to develop skills crucial for students to possess when they enter into the industry. Students took part in competitions that emphasize the value of presentation and communication skills, as well as encourage the delivery of visual presentations using web page technology.
Nearly 200 students and faculty members attended. The event was sponsored by numerous corporations and individuals, including Monsanto, Nooter/Eriksen and ASME.
To address a growing, green economy, students participated in an autonomous waste sorter competition, in which they designed, built and tested an autonomous system capable of accurately sorting common recyclable materials.
Students also created a commercial for an innovative product, competing for cash prizes totaling $750.
Keynote speakers and other activities provided for an exciting and intellectually stimulating conference.
